What do you think????

OK, as my readers know, I am pregnant. I am scared to death of the swine flu. I am also completely unsure about the vaccine. I keep going back and forth.

I am interested in your opinion... (especially my dear friend Stephanie, who is going to be a nurse.. hint hint!).

This is a video that I copied from 4 Little Men and Girly Twins.... check out her blog for the rest of what she had to say, then please leave me a comment.

Much love,

One scared momma!

I don't have time to watch the video now....I probably will later, but I wanted to let you know my response now isn't from watching it.....
Anyway....I've never gotten a regular flu shot. Never had any interest in it. And, when I found out that the shot is made like a year ahead of time and is only a guess as to what strand.......I have been even less interested in it. My mom got a flu shot once, and that was the only year she actually got the flu.....

Now, with the H1N1 flu shot......I feel even less interested in it. I feel very skeptical about it. And upon talking to my mom yesterday about it, she mentioned something about how when they had the swine flu shot years ago, people had all kinds of lasting effects from it.

Anyway, I don't want this to be any long ramble.....
But.....I will tell you what I would/will do. I won't be getting any sort of flu shot...and I won't have TigerBoy get them either. If he was in day care, I'm not sure what I would do........he's not, so it's not an issue....I guess even if he was, I probably wouldn't do it.
Now.....if I was pregnant...(actually, I really wish I was, but I'm not yet!), I still wouldn't get the shots.
My thoughts are to just be careful about washing hands....and if I did start getting sick with flu like symptoms, then I would head straight to the doctor to make sure it's ok.......

I know it's scary when you hear the news sometimes, or think about it too much.....but I would recommend not getting the shot unless you really feel that it's best for you. It is highly recommended for pregnant women, but you still get to decide.

Good luck......let us know what you decide.....

Here's my opinion: don't get it!

Before people get all up in arms and start sending me hate mail, let me explain why.

Number 1, we still are not 100% sure of the safety of the vaccine, so I would hesitate to jump on the bandwagon if we do not know how the population will react.

Number 2, you most likely have been exposed to the swine flu because you were born before 1980-ish (I'm guessing at least). Therefore, your little guy will have immunity from you, especially if you chose to pump or breastfeed.

Number 3, I am still hesitant about vaccinations during pregnancy. Through all my research and current OB content I'm learning, the placenta is such a permeable organ and can transfer all kinds of things to your baby. I don't know about you, but if my baby's blood brain barrier is not closed, I don't want an attenuated live virus going to my baby.

That's just my two cents. I'm also a fan of delayed vaccination, so keep that in mind when you read my opinion. Yes, I know that's strange since I'm a healthcare provider, but that's just how I feel.

However, at the end of the day, it's your decision. Talk with your OB and even your pediatrician and see what they recommend. You can ask everyone their opinions but ultimately, it's your body and your baby :)

Wait! When are you due? Isn't it in a couple of weeks? I would wait, deliver BabyMac, then not get it.

That's just me.

I tend to not trust any vaccine, medication, medical procedure, well anything really, that is so new & we have yet to see the real and long term effects for.

If it were earlier on in your pregnancy, I would say get it, only because statistically 28% of pregnant women that get swine flue die from it. But you are so close to your due date...

So, just my opinion, mind you, but I think I would not get it.
